Springfield Family Raises Funds For New Service Dog

Updated: Monday, June 9 2014, 04:44 PM CDT

Springfield native, Sherry Annis is the mother of Tommy, a 6-year-old boy with Cerebral Palsy and a severe form of Autism.

Just Last week, Victor, Tommy's service dog suddenly died from advanced cancer.

Since having Victor, Annis says Tommy has shown major improvements throughout the year.  Four-hour melt-downs were reduced to five minutes.  Tommy went from completely non-verbal to making sounds and even saying, "Mamma", his first word.

Annis says, thanks to Victor, her family could now do things with Tommy they never were able to do before like going to the fair or eating at a restaurant.

Though Tommy is currently in a grieving stage, Annis says it's urgent they get another service dog before he regresses.

Service dogs are not cheap. Some can cost as much as $22,000.

So, Annis recently started a Facebook page called, Tommy's Angel-Service Dog to help raise funds so her family can invest in a new service dog.
