Springfield Police Officers host 12th Annual Cop on Rooftop Event at Dunkin Donuts in Springfield

Updated: Saturday, May 31 2014, 11:39 PM CDT
Springfield and Sherman police officers gathered at the Dunkin Donuts on Chatham Road in Springfield for their 12 annual cop on the rooftop
event.

They did this to raise money for Special Olympics
Illinois, a non profit competition for children and adults with disabilities.

Currently, there are over 18 thousand athletes participating throughout the state. The training and competition for the game helps athletes enhance their physical fitness, motor and social skills.

"Many of my officers have assisted with these athletes out at spring games out at Chattham, Glenwood High School and they've been
able to see that joy and what it does for these athletes so it means a lot to all of us to get involved and raise money for these
athletes," said Eric Smith, Cheif at Sherman Police Department.

In the last 12 years, over 1.6 million dollars has been raised through this event.

Officers were at Dunkin Donuts accepting donations from the public
until 2pm.
