The Illinios School for the Deaf to Host Parent, Infant Institute

Updated: Friday, June 13 2014, 04:30 PM CDT
This week, the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville is hosting the Parent-Infant Institute.  It's designed for parents with children who are hearing impaired.

Throughout the week 32 families are living on campus and attending several informative workshops; learning how to better care for their child.

In 2002, Infant Hearing Screenings became mandatory in Illinois.  Since then, nearly 500 babies have been diagnosed with loss each year.

Programs like these are important as Coordinators of the Parent-Infant Institute say, the earlier the problem is detected, the more effective  intervention programs like these will be.
