UIS to Host Girls Technology Summer Camp

Updated: Friday, June 13 2014, 04:31 PM CDT
The University of Illinois, Springfield kicked off it's
6th annual Girl's Technology Camp this week.
It's geared towards girls who are currently in middle school.
According to officials at UIS, around this age many are losing
interest in computer science and mathematics.
The camp's goal is to provide fun activities in these areas these girls can relate to.

Girl's Tech offers several workshops including,
green screen technology, 3D printing and t-shirt design.
There's even a class for girls to program and
personalize their own robot to take home.

"If you can keep girls interested by showing them other technology that's maybe not game but winds up in something that's fun to learn and then they have an object they've actually produced, we've won the battle," Said Mary Tracy, Coordinator of Girl's Tech.

Tracy also said there are 40 participants in this
year's camp, which is the best turnout so far.
