UPDATED - 2 Bodies Found at Riverside Park

Updated: Tuesday, September 2 2014, 02:14 PM CDT

UPDATE: Springfield Police say two elderly men were found dead in a vehicle at Riverside Park with gunshot wounds.

The wounds on one of them were apparently self-inflicted, said Springfield Police Deputy Chief Dan Mounce. That's all police are saying for now.

This is the view from North Peoria road on the east end of the park.

That's as far as police were letting anybody in until the scene was cleared. The crime scene itself was about 200 yards back behind some trees.

The coroners vans left a little before 9 p.m., and a car wrecker brought out the car - a red Ford Taurus with Illinois plates - about a half hour later.

A hole in the rear window's glass was visible, and it appeared to be the only one.

As of yet, the bodies have not been identified..

BREAKING - Springfield Police confirm the discovery of two male bodies at Riverside Park in Northern Sangamon County. Preliminary reports indicate they died from gunshot wounds.
