Illinois Unemployment Rising

Illinois unemployment rose to 9 percent in January, according to the state Department of Employment Security. That's up from 8.7 percent in December. 

The state added only 7,100 jobs for the month. The biggest losses were among companies in the trade, transportation, and utilities sector, where the state lost 5,500 jobs. Government agencies also dropped 1,500 jobs. 

The national unemployment rate was 7.9 percent in January.
