Medical License Fees Increase

License fees for doctors in Illinois will soon double. Gov. Quinn signed the increase into law to restore funding for employees in the agency that licenses and disciplines doctors.

The money will enable the state to hire back 18 workers in the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation who were laid off in January.

Right now the agency only has 1 person processing doctors' license applications resulting in a backlog of paperwork and months of waiting.

The increased fee is one part of the new law. Doctors will now pay $700 instead of $300.
