Simon Pushes School Consolidation LegislationA new bill could make it easier for schools to consolidate. Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon is pushing her Classroom First legislation. The bill would allow two different school districts to become one. It would also let small schools dissolve voluntarily, without a referendum, as well as allowing high schools to tie consolidation dates to capital funding.
Simon thinks it's a good bill for schools.
"I think it's a smart step toward allowing schools greater flexibility to do what fits the needs of their students," Simon said.
The bill was voted out of committee without any opposition. It now moves to the House floor for debate.
