Police Impersonator Strikes Again(Updated March 11, 6:00 pm) A man using red and blue flashing lights and pretending to be a police officer continues to prey on young women. This weekend, there was another report of a fake cop. We're on the third week of reporting these incidents, and there is still no arrest. The most recent incident happened near Curran Friday night just before midnight. The location is less than eight miles from where the first two victims were reportedly stopped.
This weekend, an 18-year-old woman reported she was on Route 36 heading toward Curran, when she noticed a larger white vehicle behind her. She also noticed it did not have a front license plate.
Near Curran and Mansion roads, she saw a red and blue flashing light on top of the vehicle behind her. Because she was aware of the recent police impersonator cases, she turned on her hazard lights and continued driving south on Curran Road. The driver behind her then reportedly shut off the flashing lights and turned on to Mansion Road. She then lost sight of the vehicle.
Authorities believe the police impersonator from this weekend is the same guy from previous reports.
"We're afraid this person's becoming more confident in his abilities," Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell said. "If he's liking the media attention, we're not sure. But either way, we're afraid he'll keep going and further it to commit a crime worse than what he's done so far. So we need this person in custody right away."
The woman who reported this most recent incident waited until the next morning to call authorities. The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office is urging you to call 911 immediately if you come into contact with someone you believe is a police impersonator.
The sheriff's office continues to investigate this and the previous police impersonator reports.
Remember, if you're being pulled over by an unmarked car late at night, especially in a rural area, put your hazard lights on and call 911 to verify it's a police officer behind you.

The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office is investigating another police impersonator incident.
Detectives say an 18-year-old female victim was driving on South Farmingdale Road near the intersection with Old Route 36 around 11:50 p.m. Friday. When she turned east onto Route 36, she noticed a "larger" white vehicle with no front license plate pull out onto the highway behind her. Near Mansion Road, she saw a red-and-blue flashing light on top of the vehicle. She turned on her hazard lights and continued driving south on Curran Road, until the vehicle's driver shut off the red and blue light and turned east on Mansion Road.
No description of the driver is available.
This is the fifth report of a cop impersonator in Sangamon County this year.
