New Elementary School Breaks Ground In Clinton

The Clinton school district broke ground on its new elementary school on Illini Drive.

Officials wanted to build the new school because there are several schools in the district dating back to 1905.

Community members worked with the district to figure out where to build the new school, and what the building would need to provide students with a state-of-the-art facility.

"The community responded very well," Clinton School District superintendent Jeff Holmes said. "Our referendum we passed was 3 to 1 in favor of the referendum, and I think the reason for that is we did a lot of legwork, making sure the community understood what we were trying to do and why we were doing it. And they were just very supportive of the effort."

The new school will host students in grades two through five.
