Ye Olde Blogpoll Week 6, Reward The UndefeatedsBy Joe Kutsunis Ah what a wonderful feeling, when I can confidently vote my Fighting Illini well above their normal station in the football universe. The Illini, through five weeks of games are now one of just 13 major teams to be without a loss thus far, and with the first week of Big Ten conference play behind us, I decided it was time to start rewarding the teams that haven't lost, not just voting for teams that have loses against good teams. Illinois and Michigan are the biggest beneficiaries of this, and the biggest losers deserve it, specifically Texas A&M and Florida State, who have somehow both managed to maintain national rankings elsewhere despite their two losses, sorry TAMU, but close doesn't count. From what I have seen of Michigan, we cannot yet chalk this up to "well they were undefeated early last year too" because this team is not being coached by Greg Robinson on defense, nor is it looking undisciplined or confused as it so often did last year, even in victories. Speaking of undisciplined and confused, LSU is my new No. 1 team this week, but Alabama stays at No.3. IT wasn't anything that I saw in LSU's crushing of Kentucky or Bama's similarly roll of Florida, I just think that LSU is probably better than OU, but Bama isn't at this point. Its subjective. Illinois is flying high as I mentioned before, and will have a chance to fly higher still next week against Indiana, but I think I and other voters would like to the see Zook manage a blowout against this over matched team before anyone gets too confident. Also boo Virginia Tech, I thought you were way better than you are. Three points!?!? I vote you down massively for having so much faith in you. |
