Fantasy Football 52: An Intro

You’ve at least heard of it by now. If you’re not directly involved, I guarantee you know someone who is. I’m speaking of course about the national phenomenon known as Fantasy Football. In a world where over 50 million people are estimated to play fantasy sports every year, fantasy football is the reigning king. It’s been said that anywhere between 20 and 40 million people each year take part in fantasy football. To help clarify, that’s roughly equal to the entire population of the state of California. Fantasy football has become a part of mainstream culture, and has a direct impact on professional football being by far the most popular sport in our country.

Taking these facts into consideration, it has occurred to me that fantasy football can no longer be contained by the beginning and end of the regular season. Much like the real NFL, fantasy football has become relevant year round. Between the draft, free agent signings, off season trades, and coaching staff changes, a smart fantasy player is learning to keep an eye on league happenings all year. So, in an effort to cater to fantasy football players of all types, I’ve joined forces with the good folks at myfoxillinois.com to bring you a new blog dedicated to nothing but fantasy football. I’ll write one blog per week for the entire year starting now. And that’s how we came up with the name. One blog a week, Fifty-two weeks a year, Fantasy Football 52. Make sense? Let’s hope so.

My goal is to make my space on this site useful to everyone interested in fantasy football in any capacity. Whether you’re brand new to it, or you’ve been playing so long you remember drafting Art Monk as your starting WR. In the weeks leading up to the start of the season, we’ll go over things like league types, scoring systems, fantasy football terminology, effects of off season activity, as well as complete rankings for each position.

Once the season begins, I’ll attach a video clip to the blog that will give you weekly rankings for your players, and try to answer a few lineup questions any of you may have. I hope you’re as excited about the start of the upcoming season as I am. May we all be lucky enough to win loads of money…..I mean bragging rights, from our friends. Next week we’ll discuss many of the different league types. Now get off of the computer before your Mom yells at you.
