IN CELEBRATION OF ILLINOIS CIVIL UNIONS AND THE REPEAL OF DADT, SPRINGFIELD PRIDE ANNOUNCES 1st ANNUAL GAY PRIDE FESTIVAL.
SUNDAY MAY 22, 2011, NOON-6 PM ON CAPITAL AVE. BETWEEN 5TH & 6TH STREETS.
SPRINGFIELD, IL – FEBRUARY 9, 2011 – Springfield PRIDE and the Phoenix Center, Springfield’s source for HIV programs and services announces Springfield’s first annual Gay Pride Festival on Harvey Milk Day, Sunday May 22nd, 2011.
The free festival will begin at noon with a Pooch Parade on Capital Avenue between 5th and 6th streets and will continue until 6:00 pm with a variety of entertainment, dancing, vendors, food and drink for all ages including a children’s area.
“With the signing of the Illinois Civil Unions Bill and repeal of DADT, there’s never been more reason to celebrate Springfield’s LGBTQ community,” said Jonna J. Cooley, PhD - Director of the Phoenix Center.
Scandals Nightclub will host the Pre-PRIDE Party Saturday night May 21st and Club Station House will host the After-PRIDE Party at 6:00 pm Sunday.
