IL House Cuts Budget $1.2 Billion

(Springfield, IL) -- May 12, 2011. As Illinois continues to struggling with budget problems, State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago) said on Thursday the $1.2 billion Illinois human services budget cuts approved, 13-1, by the House Human Services Appropriations Committee, which she chairs, were needed to balance the current Illinois budget.

Feigenholtz, however, stressed the bi-partisan budget plan, House Bill 3717, would allow the state to live within its means while protecting the most vulnerable Illinois citizens.

On Friday, the Illinois House of Representatives approved, 83-25, Feigenholtz's human services budget legislation.

The Illinois House and Senate must now reconcile their competiing versions of the state's fiscal plan which starts on July 1, 2011.
