Illinois House Deputy Majority Leader Lou Lang (D-Chicago) backs the Illinois human services budget approved by both a top House panel and the full House last week.
Lang says the $1.2 billion cut to Illinois human services funding provides necessary state austerity while restoring vital services for vulnerable Illinois citizens which were originally eliminated by Governor Pat Quinn.
State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago), the Chair of the House Human Services Appropriations Committee, who drew praise from Lang, says cutting the Illinois human services budget was a "daunting task".
The House and Senate must reconcile competing budget versions before sending to Quinn's desk.
The legislature is scheduled to adjourn on May 31.
